1. When you find yourself stuck in a repetitive cycle with your startup without significant progress, it's referred to as "spinning your wheels."
2. The funny thing is that when launching a new project, later, you may feel like you're spinning the wheel, with no notable outcomes. What could be wrong?
3. The secret lies in your skills. You apply the same set across different projects, doing what you're best at. The paradox is that your strength can become your weakness and keep you trapped in the same cycle.
4. This brings us to a not so obvious checklist to assess the worthiness of a new project.
5. On one side, list all your existing skills and what could be of value to the project. On the other side, list the skills that the project requires, which you may lack. This will force you to learn and acquire those skills along the way to successfully run the project.
6. It may seem logical to take on projects that closely align with your existing skills. However, here lies the paradox: sticking solely to this logic can keep you trapped in the spinning wheel like a hamster. Instead, seek out projects that challenge you to learn and engage in new endeavors. Naturally, keep the balance between the new skills needed, and your existing ones. Avoid overestimating your learning capabilities.
7. As a reward, you will be able to break out of the wheel, where your best efforts seem to yield no progress. Success is not guaranteed, but undoubtedly there will be something different.
